The
Tessearct School
Phoenix, Arizona
High School English and History Teacher
Full
Time - The Tesseract School is a vibrant PS-9th grade community in a suburb
of Phoenix, Arizona. In the fall of 2008 Tesseract opened a new campus to
house the existing middle school and the inaugural high school 9th grade class.
Tesseract is adding an additional high school grade each year allowing Tesseract
to eventually grow into the only accredited nonprofit K-12th program in the
Phoenix area.
Tesseract's small
class sizes and innovative teaching methods help us achieve our school's mission
of preparing students to 'excel in college and beyond, lead lives of purpose,
and become ethical and compassionate citizens with a global perspective.'
Tesseract students tend to be academically focused, polite, curious, and happy.
Our high school program emphasizes rigorous academics through a focus on hands-on
experiences, community involvement, student empowerment, and global interactions.
A unique trait of our program is an emphasis on bringing learning beyond the
classroom.
In keeping with
our school's belief that students learn best when they combine concepts across
separate disciplines, the 10th grade European Studies course will combine
Language Arts, History, Literature, and Government into one Humanities class.
The class will meet roughly ten hours per week and focus on the politics,
literature, and history of middle to late century European countries and governments.
Student composition and an emphasis on writing mechanics will be an essential
part of this course.
This unique teaching
opportunity is best suited to an individual with a strong teaching background
in both composition and European history including English literature. The
10th grade humanities teacher will have the unique opportunity to use their
creativity and curricular expertise to design an original course that will
serve as the cornerstone of our student's 10th grade experience. The successful
candidate will have:
· A bachelors
degree demonstrating extensive knowledge of the course material
· At least four
years of relevant teaching experience
· A track record
of connecting to and inspiring students
· Demonstrated
experience in creating hands-on curricula
· Excellent organizational
and classroom management skills
· A demonstrated
commitment to continued learning and professional growth
· A twenty first-century
orientation, valuing the importance of international connection, technological
sophistication and environmental stewardship
Compensation:
As part of a
team of founding faculty the successful candidate will have an outstanding
opportunity to help establish the direction of Tesseract's Humanities department.
In this development they will have access to state-of-the-art equipment on
our new campus. The school also provides exceptional support for professional
growth and collaboration by setting aside two hours each work week for teacher
collaboration and planning. In addition to these benefits, Tesseract also
provides:
· Highly competitive
salaries (based on NAIS norms)
· Full medical,
dental, life insurance and long term disability benefits
· Optional 403B
with employer matching
· Optional vision,
short term disability and medical flex spending account
· Generous stipends
for professional development
· Assistance
with relocation costs
